Come welcome Fleischmanns’ new public orchard in a tree planting ceremony hosted by Transition Catskills at the Fleischmanns Community Garden on Saturday, October 11th at 11:30 a.m. The garden is located at the east end of the park on Wagner Avenue.

Next spring, pink flowers will grace the park as 8 new apple trees set their blossoms.  Within a few years, all visitors to the park will be able to harvest Golden Delicious and 4 red varieties for baking apple pies, pressing into cider, or eating fresh off the tree.  The average lifespan of an apple tree is 100 years, so the healthful attributes of organic apples will delight taste buds for several generations.

Transition Catskills is a grassroots organization of interested area residents dedicated to building local resilience and self-reliance.
